Anadolu Pony
Calm, balanced, hardy, possesses a strong self-preservation instinct, adapts well to harsh conditions, loyal to humans but may show independence.
Anadolu Pony — a small, very hardy and primitive local breed of horses from Turkey, a typical representative of the mountain-steppe ponies of Western Asia. Height at withers 1200–1400 mm (average 1280–1340 mm), live weight 200000–350000 g (usually 220000–280000 g). Build is dry, strong, harmonious, with well-developed musculature and strong bone structure, constitution closer to the oriental type. Distinguished by compact format (format index ≈1.02–1.08), short strong back, low-set croup, “oriental” head profile, dense coat (short in summer, very thick and long in winter), often “wild” coat colors and primitive markings. Preferred colors: bay of all shades, black, gray (including mouse-gray), chestnut; piebald and leopard-spotted are highly undesirable. Differs from the base form (domestic horse) by significantly smaller height, more compact format, exceptional endurance under sparse feeding and harsh climate, more “wild” conformation.
