Cadena palirostrata is a legless lizard from the amphisbaenian group. It spends its entire life underground in Cuba and uses its shovel-shaped head to dig tunnels in the soil.
Cadena palirostrata differs from other lizards by the complete absence of legs and a shovel-shaped head. It loosens the soil and helps control the population of soil invertebrates in Cuba.
