Calm, balanced, energetic but obedient. High endurance, natural talent for pacing, friendly towards humans, works well in harness and under saddle.
Narragansett Pacer — a historical American breed of riding and draft horses of the XVII–XVIII centuries, medium-sized, light, dry, very hardy, specialized in the natural lateral pace. Height at withers 1420–1550 mm (average 1470–1520 mm), weight 360–500 kg. The body is compact, “square”, body length approximately equal to height at withers. The head is small and dry with a straight or slightly concave profile, the neck is of medium length with a high horizontal set. The back is short and strong, the limbs are dry with strong tendons and sturdy hooves (often bluish tint). The dominant color is bay of all shades; chestnut, black-bay, roan (especially red roan) were allowed. It differs from the basic domestic horse by a lighter bone structure, innate pacing gait, economical movement, and dry constitution. The breed is practically extinct; only genetic lines in Standardbred horses have been preserved.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
