Old English Black (Old English Black Horse)
Calm, balanced, obedient, with pronounced good nature and low aggressiveness. High work capacity, patience for heavy labor, moderate energy. Gets along well with other horses and people.
Old English Black — a large, massive heavy draft horse bred in England in the 17th–18th centuries. Height at withers 1680–1780 mm (ideal 1720–1750 mm), live weight 820–1050 kg (stallions 920–1050 kg, mares 820–940 kg). Build broad, deep, bony, with powerful musculature; format slightly elongated (index 102–106 %). Head large, massive, but dry (length 580–650 mm), profile straight or slightly convex. Eyes large, dark brown. Ears 140–170 mm, erect. Neck powerful, 650–780 mm, with high set and crest in stallions. Chest deep (girth 2200–2450 mm), withers 140–170 mm, back short and broad, croup wide (length 580–640 mm). Limbs strong, pastern circumference 260–300 mm, hooves large (diameter 140–170 mm), black. Feathering moderate (80–140 mm). Tail dense, historically often docked to 400–500 mm. Mane dense, up to 900–1100 mm. The only permissible color is jet black. Only a small white star on the forehead (up to 30–40 mm) is allowed. Differs from the Shire by smaller stature and minimal white markings, from the Black Forest by a more massive bone structure and purely black color.
