Ostfriesen and Alt-Oldenburger
Calm, balanced, good-natured, with pronounced work capacity and willingness to cooperate with humans. Less temperamental than purebred riding horses, but energetic and hardy. Get along well with other horses and people, including children.
Ostfriesen and Alt-Oldenburger (Frison Oriental) — a heavy draft and harness horse breed of the warmblood type of the old type. Large, massive, harmoniously built horses with a pronounced harness format (horizontal format, index 102–105). Height at withers 1600–1720 mm (ideal 1640–1680 mm), weight 650–850 kg, body length 1700–1850 mm, chest girth 2000–2200 mm, cannon bone circumference 220–260 mm. The head is large (550–650 mm), expressive, profile straight or slightly convex (Roman nose allowed). The neck is powerful (650–800 mm), with high carriage and a well-developed crest in stallions. The body is deep and broad, the back short and strong, the croup powerful, slightly sloping, double. The chest is very broad and deep (750–850 mm). The limbs are strong, with a short strong cannon bone. The hooves are large, broad, rounded. The coat is fine, dense, shiny; the mane and tail are very thick, often wavy. The main color is black (pure black), dark bay, bay, dark brown are allowed. Differs from the basic domestic horse by a more massive bone structure, depth and width of the body, “coldblood” type while retaining energy. From the modern Oldenburger — by heavier build, short back, powerful neck. From the Friesian horse — by drier constitution, less feathering on the legs, varied coat color. Disqualifying faults: height outside 1580–1750 mm, too light bone structure, weak tendons, narrow chest, sickle-hocked stance, etc.
