American Miniature Horse
Friendly, curious, calm and sociable. Low level of aggression, gets along well with children and other animals. Maintains playfulness and energy throughout life. "Pocket" companion instinct, loves human attention.
The American Miniature Horse is a proportionally built, harmonious breed that externally resembles a scaled-down version of a large riding horse (of Arabian and Morgan type) rather than a pony. Height at the withers 711–864 mm, weight 30–55 kg (from 22 kg in the smallest), body length 760–1100 mm. The head is small and dry (190–240 mm), with a broad forehead, a straight or slightly concave profile, large dark-brown eyes, and small upright ears (55–75 mm). The neck is relatively long and muscular (380–520 mm) with a slight arch. The body is compact and deep, chest girth 760–1020 mm, back short and straight, croup rounded. The limbs are dry and correctly set, foreleg length 380–520 mm, pastern circumference 100–130 mm, hooves round and strong, 70–95 mm in diameter. The tail is thick and long, set high. The coat is fine and silky, lying close, with a dense undercoat in winter. The skin is thin, elastic, and darkly pigmented. Virtually all equine coat colors are permitted. It differs from the base type and other mini-breeds by its strict proportionality, refined head, dry limbs, and high neck set. Ideal proportions: body length ≈ height at the withers, head ≈ 1/3 of height, shoulder blade angle 45–55°. Disqualifying faults: height >864 mm at 5 years, serious conformational defects, “pony-type” conformation.
