Miquelon horse
Calm, balanced, hardy. Well adapted to the harsh island climate, possesses a strong herding instinct and independence. Less "hot" than many riding breeds, shows patience and stress resistance.
Miquelon horse (Cheval de Miquelon) — an extremely rare primitive island breed, one of the smallest in the world. Height at withers 1100–1350 mm (ideal 1180–1280 mm), weight 180000–320000 g (usually 200000–270000 g). Body length 1300–1550 mm. Brachyomorphic format (short and wide), format index 102–108 %, massiveness index 2.8–3.2. Strong constitution with “pony-like” and “draft horse” features, large head (38–42 % of height at withers), short thick neck, deep wide body, short strong limbs. Pronounced primitive traits: dense double coat (up to 40–50 mm in winter), feathering on legs (40–90 mm), wild colors. Head wide with straight or slightly concave profile, small mobile ears (90–120 mm), large dark brown eyes, wide nostrils (up to 45–55 mm), long vibrissae (80–100 mm). Acceptable colors: bay, black-bay, mouse dun, brown, dun (with zebra striping, dorsal stripe and leg barring), chestnut. Not allowed: pinto, spotted, silver, cream, white, dapple gray. Differs from Equus caballus by small stature with high massiveness, adaptation to cold humid climate, abundance of feathering.
