Bobo horse
Calm, balanced, hardy, possesses a strong herding instinct, adapted to the hot savanna climate, moderately energetic, loyal to humans but may show caution toward strangers.
Bobo horse (bobo, حصان بوركيني, bobodi) — an African breeding line of domestic horse, developed by the Bobo people in Burkina Faso and northern Ghana. Small, very hardy, drought-resistant savanna-type horse. Height at withers 1380–1480 mm (average 1420–1450 mm), live weight 280–380 kg (stallions 320–380 kg, mares 280–340 kg), body length 1450–1580 mm, chest girth 1550–1720 mm. Build compact, strong, square format (index ≈1.0–1.02), dry strong constitution, with well-developed musculature and strong bone structure. Head small, dry, with straight or slightly concave profile, broad forehead and relatively short muzzle. Ears small, erect, pointed (110–140 mm). Eyes large, dark hazel or almost black. Neck of medium length (420–520 mm), muscular, high-set. Back short and strong (480–550 mm), withers of medium height (1380–1480 mm). Limbs dry and strong, with short dense bones; fore cannon bone circumference 170–185 mm, hind 160–175 mm. Hooves very strong, rounded, with hard horn of black or dark horn color. Tail low-set, hair dense but not very long. Coat short, dense, glossy, closely fitting (extremely short and silky in summer). Acceptable colors: bay (all shades), black, dark bay, chestnut (rare); small white markings allowed. Differs from Djerma, M’Bayar and Hausa horse by more compact “square” build, short strong back, exceptional hoof hardness and dry constitution. Standard requires near-square format, chest depth ≥48% of height at withers, cannon bone circumference ≥175 mm in stallions; long soft back, weak hooves, large white spots, height outside 1350–1520 mm are culled.
