Lesbos horse (Midilli pony, Lesbos pony)
Calm, balanced, good-natured, very hardy and adaptable to poor conditions. Low aggression, good sociality in the herd, pronounced self-preservation instinct and stress resistance.
Lesbos Horse (Midilli Pony) — a very small, primitive island breed of pony from the Greek island of Lesbos. One of the smallest horse breeds in Europe. Height at withers 90–115 cm (ideal 96–108 cm), live weight 130–220 kg (usually 150–180 kg). Build strong, harmonious, dry, with pronounced pony features. Head small, dry, with a wide forehead and relatively short muzzle, profile straight or slightly concave (soft Arabian concavity). Ears small, erect (90–110 mm). Eyes large, dark brown or almost black. Neck of medium length (380–520 mm), muscular. Body compact, deep, with pronounced withers and short back (420–510 mm). Chest girth 110–135 cm, pastern girth 12.5–15.0 cm. Limbs dry and strong. Hooves very strong, rounded, often black. Tail low-set, thick. Coat thick with dense undercoat in winter, short and shiny in summer. Skin thin, darkly pigmented. Allowed colors: bay (most common), black, dark bay, brown, gray (lightens with age), chestnut (rare). Small white markings on head and legs are allowed. Prohibited: spotted, piebald, cream dilutions, pronounced roan. Format index ≈1.02–1.08, massiveness index 1.35–1.45. Head ≈1/3 of height at withers. Differs from the base type by significantly smaller size, drier constitution, and oriental influence in head and neck.
