Calm, phlegmatic, good-natured, balanced. Low reactivity, high stress resistance, gets along well with other horses and people. Strong working horse instinct.
Schleswig — a compact, massive, well-muscled cold-blooded draft horse of medium to large size. Height at withers 1550–1680 mm (ideal 1600–1650 mm), weight 650–950 kg. Distinguished by a short-legged square conformation (height at withers nearly equal to body length), a small broad-forehead head with a square muzzle, a short muscular neck, a deep wide body, a short strong back, a powerful double-rounded croup. Limbs short and strong with large pastern circumference (220–260 mm), moderately developed feather, large rounded hooves. Coat dense, thick with abundant undercoat. Dominant color — bright golden-chestnut of all shades; small white markings allowed. Head lighter and more refined than in most other draft breeds (Brabant, Ardennes).
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
