The species is found within the Indomalaya and Palearctic biogeographical realms, inhabiting several distinct ecosystems. Tigers occupy lowland moist deciduous forests of the Chao Phraya basin, as well as the moist deciduous forests of the northwestern Ghats. The species also lives in mountainous rainforests of the southwestern Ghats, the western Java rainforests, and the peat swamp forests of Tonle Sap-Mekong.
